Company description
In 1968, 10 Arab countries – Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE – formed the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), the main objective of which was the development of the Arab oil industry through cooperation between the member countries.
In 1979, two OAPEC Companies, Arab Petroleum Services Company (APSCO) and Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP), together with Santa Fe Drilling, agreed to establish a drilling and workover company. APSCO contributed three new rigs, APICORP the capital, and Santa Fe all of its assets and contracts in Libya. Thus, the Arab Drilling and Workover Company (ADWOC) was established and, guided by a desire to operate in all of the OAPEC countries, started operations in Libya in
Having started in 1980 with only basic drilling operations, ADWOC has since grown to become one of the leading drilling and workover company with a fleet of 28 rigs, 20 owned by ADWOC and 8 leased from other drilling contractors. In addition, ADWOC can offer a variety of other oilfield drilling services. Among these 28 rigs, ADWOC operates a number of highly mobile drilling units such as ADWOC Rig 20. Rig 20 is a 2,000 HP highly mobile SCR rig built by National Oil well Varco (NOV) in 2008. All ADWOC work over rigs are designed for deep desert use and are highly mobile. The experience of our management and field personnel adds greater value to the rigs we build.
Since the mobility of workover rigs is a key performance factor, ADWOC’s Technical Team have designed two more workover rigs – a 550HP unit and a 750HP unit – that are currently being built by Falcon Rigs in the US. These rigs are specifically designed to meet our client’s requirements, and to operate smoothly in the region’s harsh desert conditions.
In 2013 Adwoc was awarded by the world finance of London UK stock Market the best drilling contractors in North Africa and Middle east.
